Army Reservists are volunteers who participate in Defence Forces Training in their spare time. The Defence Forces of Ireland consists of the Permanent Defence Force (PDF) and the Reserve Defence Force (RDF). The RDF, comprising the First Line Reserve, Army Reserve, and Naval Service Reserve, is crucial to Ireland's defence. The Army Reserve is integrated into the Permanent Defence Forces.

As a Reservist, you'll train alongside dedicated professionals, develop leadership and resilience, and gain hands on experience that enhances both your military and civilian career. The Army Reserve allows you to balance service with your existing commitments.
Eligibility Requirements- Applicants must be years old, or up to 45 if a former PDF or RDF member with at least 1 year of service.
- Must be at least 5 ft 2 in (157.48 cm) tall.
- No visible tattoos above the collar line.
- Must meet working permit eligibility criteria; must have a minimum of 5 years eligibility to stay in Ireland.
- Must meet medical, physical and security clearance standards.
- Training complements professional development and includes opportunities for leadership and management at various levels.
- After attestation, recruits undergo a syllabus that develops teamwork, self discipline and leadership, qualifying them as 2 Star Privates.
- To achieve 3 Star level, Privates engage in advanced training such as General Purpose Machine Gun, Combat First Aid, and Platoon Level Tactics.
- Career progression includes fundamentals of leadership, the Potential Non Commissioned Officer course, the Standard Non Commissioned Officer course, and the opportunity to become a Commissioned Officer.
