We are currently recruiting for aWaste Management Operativeto join a busy waste management team supporting Leicestershire County Council.

This is an excellentlong-term opportunityfor an experienced plant operator or someone looking to develop their skills within the waste and recycling industry. You'll play a key role in ensuring waste management sites operate safely, efficiently and in line with environmental and health & safety standards.

Working as part of a dedicated team, you'll operate a loading shovel and other plant machinery while helping to maximise recycling, maintain site operations and deliver excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

As a Waste Management Operative, your duties will include:

  • Operating a loading shovel to move, manage and bulk waste materials.
  • Operating additional plant and equipment including telehandlers (when trained and authorised), balers and other waste processing machinery.
  • Loading and unloading vehicles in line with customer and contractor specifications.
  • Receiving site deliveries and checking electronic and paper records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Using weighbridge systems and other site equipment to support safe and efficient site operations.
  • Sorting, compacting, shredding and processing waste materials using specialist equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate records of incoming and outgoing materials.
  • Keeping the site clean, organised and operating efficiently.
  • Assisting with site inductions and ensuring all visitors, contractors and drivers work safely on site.
  • Supporting supervisors in achieving operational targets and service standards.
  • Promoting recycling initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve recycling rates and customer service.
  • Assisting with the training and support of new team members where required.
What We're Looking For

We're looking for candidates who:

  • Have experience operating loading shovels or similar heavy plant machinery (preferred).
  • Hold relevant plant operation qualifications or are willing to undertake training.
  • Have experience working within waste management, recycling, construction, quarrying or a similar industrial environment.
  • Can work safely and efficiently in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Have good communication skills and can work professionally with colleagues, contractors and site visitors.
  • Are reliable, self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Have good attention to detail when completing paperwork and electronic records.
  • Take pride in maintaining high standards of housekeeping and site safety.
Working Environment
  • Outdoor, hands on role working in a busy waste management facility.
  • Regular operation of heavy plant and waste processing equipment.
  • Full training provided for site-specific equipment and procedures where required.
  • PPE will be provided.
  • Candidates must be committed to following all Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality Management procedures.
