Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the SVP, Asia Pacific & Global Strategy, Protection (SVP), this role leads the Global Client Solutions Enablement team. This team is responsible for three important functions, which support the Market Client Solutions teams, in each of Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and the Global Protection Executive Committee.

  • Business propositions: Leading global strategic initiatives for the Protection Line of Business, working with the SVP and GPEC as appropriate. To be successful in this aspect of the role, the incumbent will be able to demonstrate long term and "out of the box" thinking to develop compelling solutions to market problems that will ultimately expand our proposition set and support us generating material volumes of highly valuable business in areas we currently do not operate
  • Global Enablement: Supporting the global business line and individual markets to manage initiatives and projects, including key strategic initiatives, Data Insights Steering Committee (DISC) initiatives or unusual or adhoc initiatives that don't naturally sit in any specific market.
  • Marketing: Ensuring a clear marketing strategy is in place and being executed to align our brand in our markets with our target brand

Additionally, this role will be have dotted line (functional) oversight of the market enablement teams across the function. As part of this the incumbent would be expected to be actively across the key activity underway in our various markets, ensuring consistent practices are being adopted where it makes sense to do so.

This will include connecting dots across the markets and identifying opportunities and solutions to improve the Client Solutions processes across the function (for example our Deal Teams).

This role is predominately an internal facing role, but will engage with senior clients or other third parties to support proposition development within the Global Enablement Team and in-market Client Solutions teams.

This role will be part of the Global Client Solutions Functional Leadership Team (CSFLT) and would collaborate with the Divisional Strategy team.

Duties

1. Leading the Business Proposition role(s) in the Global Enablement team and collaborating with the CSFLT to prioritise (35%):

  • Global propositions or product innovation
  • Exploration and eventual entry into new markets or segments of markets already in strategy.
  • Supporting the in-market teams to review and refine existing strategies as appropriate.

This role would be expected to see these initiatives through end-to-end, utilising the Business Proposition and Global Enablement functions in the incumbent's team, before passing them into the market teams as appropriate. This will involve a high degree of stakeholder management both within and outside of Protection, and the ability to be decisive and pragmatic. This will also require a close working partnership with UnderwriteMe, ensuring where appropriate our UnderwriteMe differentiators are being leveraged in our propositions.

2. Leading the Global Enablement function which is in place to provide coordination and initiative support on global protection initiatives, including (but not limited to) (25%):

  • Protection wide strategic initiatives such as the Partnership Management Framework, and key client plans
  • Material DISC projects as agreed by the CSFLT
  • Large or unusual projects across the LoB that are typically non-recurring and market teams are not resourced to manage
  • Initiatives that the Business Proposition function develop
  • Strategy Next and other relevant strategic initiatives

Coordination with other functions within PL Re (DBS, Technology, etc) will be important to be successful, including ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities.

3. Providing leadership and direction to the Marketing function for the Protection LoB, ensuring alignment between marketing activity and our market strategies in each of our markets and with UnderwriteMe (15%)

4. Build, lead and manage the Global Client Solutions Team and provide functional leadership to the market enablement roles, including (20%):

  • Setting a vision for the team and translating this into appropriately challenging objectives
  • Supporting the development of team members by providing ongoing coaching and development/stretch goals, aligned with the company objectives.
  • Prioritising objectives and plans as appropriate to maximise opportunities to achieve KPIs

Be an effective member of the Global Client Solutions Functional Leadership Team, including leveraging Global Enablement Team to support effective running of this team.

5. Providing Chief of Staff type support to the GPEC, including (5%):

  • Supporting the development and review of strategic objectives
  • Supporting the reporting of strategic objectives and other initiatives, including in staff meetings and other forums
  • Working with PMLCs as appropriate to report on progress with strategic initiatives

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Knowledge

  • Educated to at least degree level preferably with actuarial or other similar training
  • 10+ years proven experience working in a life (re)insurer, preferably in a pricing or client solutions department at a senior level
  • Good working knowledge of Life Insurance industry regulations globally

Leadership Skills

  • Strong management/leadership background with track record of leading and developing high performance teams and being able to lead via influence
  • Proven track record in developing strategies and seeing them through to successful execution
  • Being a very proactive, self-starter who is willing to give things a go and fail fast
  • Very strong communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills, and ability to deliver difficult/challenging messages
  • Able to proactively manager a variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to quickly cut through detail and focus on what is important, being decisive and accountable

Commercial Judgement

  • Strong analytical skills combined with sound judgement and commercial awareness
  • Proven ability to "think outside the box" to derive new and innovative approaches
  • Strong ability to influence stakeholders who may not have same starting position as you
  • Ability and desire to communicate with business customers at all levels across the business and to work well within a team environment
  • Organised, conscientious, and deadline focused with an attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing demands and deal with non-standard and unstructured requests, at short notice
  • Motivated to take ownership of work and to seek further responsibility
