Laundry Room Assistant (Based at Block Fen)

As a laundry room assistant you will be supporting our staff and taking care of the washing of towels, blankets and animal bedding. You will also be ensuring that the laundry room is kept clean and tidy at all times and checking that machines are in proper working order. This is an important role as the supply of fresh laundry is essential for the animals in our care clean, warm and comfortable.

This can be a dirty role. You'll need to be happy dealing with animal blood, faeces and vomit stained laundry as some of the animals in our care may be unwell, or recovering from injuries.

We'll train you to use the machines and give you training in Manual Handling as some lifting and carrying will be involved.

This role is a great opportunity to meet people and make new friends at the heart of the local community. Ultimately, you can be certain the work you will be doing is making a huge difference to the welfare of animals.

We can reimburse reasonable out of pocket travel expenses you may incur whilst volunteering with us.Our volunteering sessions run from 9.00am -12.00pm.The centre is not near any bus routes so you will need to be able to drive.

Our volunteers are incredible, they play an essential role in helping us carry out our important animal welfare work every day.As a Laundry Room Assistant you will be helping the Centre staff and volunteers by ensuring that there is always clean laundry available for the animals in our care.

What you will be doing

• Undertaking any laundry and ironing that is generated during the daily running of the centre
• This will include towels, blankets, and animal bedding
• Ensuring that the laundry room is kept clean and tidy at all times and the machines are in proper working order

The skills you need

• Volunteers must be aged 18 or over
• Willingness to pitch in, help out and get your hands dirty
• No experience is necessary as full training will be given on the use of our machines
• Some heavy lifting will be involved but full H&S training will be given

Tetanus is a life threatening bacterial disease caused by an infection in an open wound.In view of this everyone should be vaccinated to prevent infection and we require that all RSPCA staff and volunteers must be suitably protected.Tetanus vaccination is carried out in infancy (3 doses), at pre-school and in adolescence so everyone should have had 5 doses by the time adulthood is reached. This is considered to give lifelong protection although a booster might be considered if an injury is deemed to be high risk.We request that volunteers must check their vaccination history with their GP's and if fully immunised no further action is required. If a volunteer has not had the required doses, the GP should offer them free of charge as part of the UK vaccination schedule
