Job Description
Overview

My client in the Wakefield area is a friendly and well-established small animal practice with a loyal client base and strong clinical links to a local 24-hour hospital, located just 20 minutes away. The practice benefits from a collaborative and supportive culture, where a close-knit team works together to deliver consistently high standards of patient and client care. The role offers the opportunity to work in a varied and rewarding environment, with strong support for ongoing clinical development. They are open to considering a consult-focused Veterinary Surgeon with a particular interest in medicine and minimal desire to undertake surgery, recognising that every vet brings individual strengths and that the position can be tailored to suit specific clinical interests.

The practice is well equipped with three consultation rooms, a dedicated surgical theatre, X-ray and dental suites, and modern diagnostic facilities including digital X-ray, ultrasound, and an in-house laboratory with up-to-date analysers. Additional external laboratory services and clinical support are readily available when required.

This position is offered as a full-time role of 40 hours across four days per week, with participation in a 1 in 6 weekend rota at the Hospital. There is flexibility to discuss part-time working patterns, and a relocation package is available for candidates moving from outside the UK or from more than 60 miles away within the UK.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver high-quality clinical care in both consultations and surgery, ensuring compliance with regulatory, practice, and operational standards.
  • Develop tailored treatment plans in partnership with clients and work collaboratively within a supportive and experienced team.
Requirements
  • Veterinary Surgeon with an interest in medicine; consult-focused candidates with minimal desire to undertake surgery will also be considered, reflecting the practice's flexible tailoring to clinical strengths.
  • Willingness to participate in a 1 in 6 weekend rota; ability to work as part of a collaborative team in a small animal setting.
Benefits
  • Private medical insurance and access to a health cash plan.
  • 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support; life assurance at three times annual salary.
  • Annual leave: five weeks plus bank holidays, increasing with length of service.
  • Professional development: £1,500 CPD allowance, three days of paid CPD leave each year, access to clinical communities, internal CPD, and funded certificates with clear internal career pathways.
  • Additional support: paid RCVS, VDS, and BVA fees; relocation assistance; visa sponsorship where applicable; sabbatical options linked to length of service.
