Overview

Veterinary Surgeon - Location: Leicester. Job Type: Permanent, full-time and part-time applications welcomed (flexible working patterns can be discussed). Hours: 40 hours over an optional 4-5 days with a 1:4 Saturday rota (8.30am-2pm) and 1:15 Sunday (8am-7pm paid extra). No nights, thanks to a dedicated night team. Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum, depending on experience.

This role is based entirely at the Hospital, ensuring continuity and stability. You will work alongside certificate holders in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and emergency critical care. The hospital boasts dedicated 24-hour nursing and vet teams, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

Their state-of-the-art facilities include in-house CT, dental suites equipped with dental X-ray, video endoscopy, ASIF kit, TPLO/TTA/Tightrope, arthroscopy, and advanced ophthalmology equipment. Responsibilities
  • Provide veterinary care with emphasis on both consulting and operating, with flexibility to focus on inpatient care or surgery if preferred.
  • Work at a Tier 3 RCVS-accredited hospital alongside specialists in ophthalmology, orthopaedics, soft tissue surgery, and emergency critical care.
  • Collaborate with 24-hour nursing and vet teams to ensure high standards of care and work-life balance.
  • Utilise in-house facilities (CT, dental suites with X-ray, video endoscopy, ASIF kit, TPLO/TTA/Tightrope, arthroscopy, advanced ophthalmology equipment) in clinical work.
  • Participate in regular clinical case discussions and monthly team meetings; pursue certificate studies for professional development.
  • Engage in wellness programs and well-being events; contribute to a positive practice environment.
Qualifications
  • RCVS registration and a minimum of 2 years general practice experience.
  • Proficiency in routine neutering (cats and dogs of all sizes) without support, including FLANK cat spays.
  • Ability to perform abdominal ultrasound, TFAST, and AFAST imaging independently.
  • Competence in exploratory laparotomies, splenectomies, GDVs, gastrotomy, and enterotomy without support.
  • Confidence with routine consults in 15 minutes and routine dental cases.
