Vacancy: Experienced Veterinary Surgeon, Portland Vets, Horley, Surrey

Portland Vets in Horley is seeking a Full Time Experienced Veterinary Surgeon to join our friendly, supportive, and well-established independent practice.

This is an excellent opportunity for a confident small-animal vet who enjoys delivering high-quality clinical care and working as part of a collaborative team. We pride ourselves on building strong relationships with our clients and providing compassionate, evidence-based veterinary medicine.

Our Horley branch is supported by Portland Vets Crawley, a new purpose-built hospital facility with a CT scanner, laparoscopy equipment, capacity for advanced surgical procedures and an exotics certificate holder.

The Role

Full Time (40 hours per week) comprised of 4 x 10 hour shifts (8:30am-6:30pm with a paid 30 minute lunch break) Monday-Friday.

1:3 Saturdays 8am-4pm with a 10 hour weekday given in lieu (plus free lunch on Saturdays!)

No OOH or on call. (Inpatient hospitalisation with duty vet provided Monday-Friday at alternative Portland practice).

Mixture of consultation and surgery days with at least one surgery day per week.

Working alongside experienced vets, nurses, and support staff in a supportive and welcoming team environment.

Range of equipment including laser therapy, ultrasound scanner (including cardiac and linear probes) , dental X-ray, wireless X-ray plate and video otoscope.

About You

RCVS-registered Veterinary Surgeon

Minimum of 3 years small-animal experience.

Confident in routine surgery and consultations

A team player with excellent communication skills

Passionate about animal welfare and client care

Vet GDP advisor would be a bonus.

Salary Package

Competitive salary from £45,000 upwards depending on experience.

£1500 + 4 days CPD allowance as standard, potential for increased package to support a certificate.

RCVS, VDS and one other veterinary membership of choice paid.

Work-life balance encouraged.

5 weeks annual leave plus bank holidays, increasing after 5 years of employment.

Option to purchase up to a week's additional annual leave plus 20% annual leave uplift given as incentive to take annual leave in quieter months of the year.

Eligible for a discretionary annual bonus of up to 5%, subject to practice performance.
