About Olympic Handball IrelandOlympic Handball Ireland ('OHI') is the National Governing Body for handball across all 32 counties of Ireland. OHI is responsible for grassroots development, national league and cup competitions, national teams at all age groups, and for developing coaches and referees. It works with Sport Ireland, Sport Northern Ireland, the Olympic Federation of Ireland, Federation of Irish Sport, the European Handball Federation, and the International Handball Federation.
The BoardThe Board governs the sport, ensuring the delivery of our Mission, Core Values and Strategy. It seeks to strengthen skill set and gender balance. As a non executive director you will contribute strategic insight at meetings and work with the CEO and staff on executive matters.
All directors volunteer. We strongly encourage female leaders to apply, as at least 40 % of directors must be women.
What we need from youWe seek a director with suitable experience, such as a formal accountancy degree, to support the development of OHI. This is a volunteer, unpaid role.
Ideal candidate skills & qualifications- Deep appreciation and knowledge of the not for profit sector.
- Initial experience in financial oversight, audit, budgeting and risk management.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business or accounting - preferably with a CPA, ACA or ACCA certification.
- Familiarity with grant funding, financial controls and public finance.
- Understanding of and commitment to OHI's mission and values.
- Abide by the corporate governance Code of Conduct.
- Knowledge of Olympic handball desirable but not essential.
- Abide by the organisation's code of conduct.

The Board meets 8-10 times per year, primarily via Zoom or Teams late afternoon or early evening. Face to face meetings are held at the OHI offices in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15. Co opted directors serve until the next Annual General Meeting, when they are elected by members for a three year term. Committee meetings (around four times per year, possibly including chairing) and ad hoc meetings may also require attendance. Outside Board meetings, the role generally requires 4-6 hours per month.
