This is an opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary teams delivering innovative digital capabilities within a highly secure environment.

Working within an agile delivery team, you'll help create user-centred experiences that integrate with existing Defence systems while supporting secure, cloud-native delivery and modern digital practices.

  • Conduct user research with operational users, analysts, task managers and key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate workshops to understand current and future operational workflows.
  • Create user journeys, service blueprints, wireframes and interactive prototypes.
  • Design intuitive workflows supporting task management, collaboration, information sharing and feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with Front End and Back End engineers to ensure designs are practical and deliverable.
  • Develop and maintain consistent design patterns and component libraries.
  • Support user testing, gather feedback and continuously improve designs.
  • Translate complex operational requirements into clear, accessible user experiences.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Proven UX design experience within MOD, Defence, National Security or similarly secure environments.
  • Strong user-centred design capability, including user research, synthesis, interaction design and prototyping.
  • Experience working confidently with military, civilian and technical stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma or equivalent collaborative design tools.
  • Experience designing workflow-driven applications, dashboards or operational systems.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility, usability and inclusive design principles.
  • Experience working within agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Service Design experience within complex organisations.
  • Human-centred design for secure or regulated environments.
  • Experience designing intelligence, command-and-control or case management systems.
  • Experience designing AI-assisted user experiences, explainability features and human-in-the-loop workflows.
  • Experience developing design systems and reusable component libraries.
  • Knowledge of classified or accredited system delivery.

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current DV Security Clearance.
  • Ability to work onsite at an MOD location in London four days per week.
  • Previous experience delivering within MOD, Defence, Defence Intelligence, Strategic Command or wider National Security organisations.
  • Comfortable working with OFFICIAL-SENSITIVE and classified material where authorised.

Ways of Working

  • Agile delivery within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Close collaboration with Defence stakeholders, Product, Delivery and Engineering teams.
  • Secure-by-design approach with consideration for audit, traceability, access control and assurance.
  • Focus on improving user experience while maintaining operational accountability and governance.

What We're Looking For

We're interested in UX Designers who can demonstrate:

  • Successful delivery within secure MOD or Defence environments.
  • The ability to transform complex operational processes into intuitive user experiences.
  • Strong collaboration across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A practical understanding of agile delivery and user-centred design.
