Job Title: Utilities Engineer

JOB PURPOSEProvide maintenance and engineering service reactive support for site facilities, equipment & systems, including contractor control. Contribute towards ensuring compliance with planned statutory and maintenance activities, including contractor control. Drive improved performance for cost, service & quality for the above. Aid with the implementation of site infrastructure projects such as utility system upgrades / energy reduction projects. Oversee electrical / mechanical installation works associated with the utility infrastructure. Report to the Utilities and Projects Lead Engineer and coordinate with the Engineering department, operations, quality, H&S, Project team & external contractors.
RESPONSIBILITIESProvide strong maintenance support to improve safety, people, cost and service.
Drive improvements in maintenance performance and cost reduction through identification and implementation of best practice techniques, root cause analysis and long-term solutions to chronic downtime issues. Conduct daily health checks and periodic condition monitoring on critical utilities equipment.
Support and sometimes lead improvement projects through the change management process, from minor changes to CAPEX justification and commissioning.
Use strong technical expertise to prioritise multiple tasks, sustaining high reliability of all equipment and systems.
Deliver best practice contractor management and permit to work, ensuring contractors provide quality-driven, value-for-money service.
Identify, source and ensure availability of maintenance spares and contracted activities.
Own and support engineering shutdowns and start-ups in allocated area.
Coordinate communications with key stakeholders to fulfill Environmental, Health & Safety and business requirements.
Conduct energy monitoring of key equipment to identify efficiency improvements.
Assist the site in uploading the department maintenance database into the IT-based maintenance planning system.
React to safety tags to ensure timely resolution of identified issues across the site.
Previous experience with facility equipment: compressors, steam boilers/systems, fire protection systems, CIP plant, sprinkler systems, lifts, commercial plumbing systems, effluent management, HVAC systems.
Experience with statutory requirements such as PSSR, LOLER, emergency lighting, legionella, health and safety at work act, electricity at work regulations, COMAH.
Strong analytical and problem solving abilities using RCA tools.
Genuine appetite to lead asset reliability improvement activities.
Engineering background essential.
Time Served Engineer qualification.
BOAS Manager preferred.
Good communication and decision making skills.
Computer literacy essential.
Ability to prioritise workload based on impact to site.
Strong organisational skills to file and audit service reports, review remedial actions via the facility action plan.
Previous experience leading the implementation of statutory inspections in a manufacturing environment (minimum 3 years).
Electrical / Mechanical qualification (preferably both).
Experience managing servicing / maintenance of utility infrastructure (minimum 3 years).
Experience managing contractors via permit to work (minimum 3 years).
Experience managing multidisciplinary projects (minimum 3 years).
Experience managing high risk isolation activities (minimum 3 years).
Ability to communicate and manage key stakeholders.
IOSH Managing Safely / NEBOSH.
BOAS Operator/Manager.
City and Guilds level 3 - Electrical / Mechanical qualification.
Project management training.
Permit to work training.
