About the Job

The Tax Manager will manage complex tax matters for expatriates and internationally mobile individuals. Working across both US and UK taxation, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Managing the preparation and review of US and UK individual tax returns
  • Reviewing Forms 1040 and 8938, FBAR filings and UK Self Assessment tax returns
  • Ensuring the timely submission of tax returns, estimates and extensions for clients with complex, multi-jurisdictional obligations
  • Leading procedures for clients with delinquent filings, including SFOPs, SDOPs, Delinquent FBAR Submission Procedures and WDFs
  • Preparing responses and supporting documentation for enquiries from the IRS, HMRC and other relevant authorities
  • Supporting senior colleagues with technical research, client consultations and prospective client processes
  • Advising clients on tax-efficient structures, investment tax implications and punitive US and UK tax regimes
  • Drafting technical memoranda on cross-border tax matters, including UK residence under the Statutory Residence Test
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of clients
  • Building strong client relationships and responding clearly to complex tax-related queries
  • Supervising, reviewing and mentoring junior tax professionals
  • Supporting the technical development and training of team members
  • Leading tax teams and maintaining the quality and accuracy of their work
  • Leading strategic projects relating to client education, automation rollout and company culture
  • Contributing to business improvement initiatives and the continued growth of the firm
Previous Experience
  • At least five years of tax experience, with a strong focus on US and UK individual taxation
  • In-depth knowledge of both the US and UK tax systems
  • Strong understanding of tax treaties and US expatriation rules
  • Experience preparing or reviewing US and UK individual tax returns
  • Experience managing complex cross-border tax compliance and advisory matters
  • Professional tax certification, or active progress towards a qualification, such as EA, ATT or CTA
  • Experience with the US tax treatment of foreign companies, including Form 5471, GILTI and Form 8832 elections, would be beneficial
  • The ability to explain complex tax matters clearly and concisely
  • Previous experience supervising, reviewing or mentoring junior tax professionals
  • Familiarity with CCH Axcess
  • Excellent organisation, accuracy and attention to detail
  • The ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • A collaborative approach and an interest in contributing to wider business improvement projects
