The Northern Ireland Assembly Commission is seeking professional, dependable and customer-focused individuals to join its Usher Services Team as an Assembly Usher.

This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of Northern Ireland's government, supporting Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), staff, visitors and stakeholders within the iconic Parliament Buildings at Stormont.

About the Role

Reporting directly to a Senior Assembly Usher, you will play a key role in providing exceptional front-line customer service while helping to maintain the security and smooth operation of Parliament Buildings and its grounds.

As part of the Usher Services Team, you will support Assembly meetings, assist visitors and staff, and contribute to maintaining a professional, welcoming and secure environment for all building users.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer service to Members, Assembly staff, visitors and members of the public.
• Provide accurate information on Assembly facilities, services and procedures.
• Maintain a professional and impartial presence throughout Parliament Buildings.
• Support the security and safety of all building users through regular patrols and monitoring activities.
• Conduct security checks, searches and screening procedures in accordance with established protocols.
• Assist the PSNI and emergency services during incidents and emergencies.
• Support emergency evacuations and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
• Manage the collection, sorting and delivery of internal mail.
• Oversee Assembly car park operations and visitor access arrangements.
• Issue and verify identification and security passes.
• Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with Assembly policies and procedures.
• Provide support to Assembly meetings and events as required.
• Undertake First Aid, Fire Safety and other mandatory training.

Essential Criteria Option 1

• 5 GCSEs (Grades A to C) , including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent/higher qualifications)

AND

• A minimum of 2 years' experience in each of the following areas:

• Delivering high-quality customer service in a customer-facing environment
• Communicating clearly, accurately and professionally with customers or service users
• Working effectively as part of a team to deliver excellent service standards
• Using Microsoft Office applications to complete administrative tasks

OR Option 2

• A minimum of 4 years' experience in each of the areas listed above.

Working Pattern

• 37-hour working week across 5 days (excluding meal breaks).
• Working days are scheduled between Monday and Saturday.
• Candidates must be available and willing to work on-site at Parliament Buildings each working day.
• The role operates across three different shift patterns, which normally run on a three-week rotation cycle.

Uniform:

Uniforms, including appropriate protective clothing and stab resistant vest (weighted 5kg), will be supplied, successful candidates will be required to wear the stab resistant vest whilst performing certain duties.
