Job Description
Overview 
The Cyber Underwriting team is seeking a Director to lead the London Market underwriting team and work closely with the Head of Cyber to shape the strategic direction, growth, pricing, and risk selection of the London portfolio.
Responsibilities- Achieve the annually agreed production and profitability objectives.
- Underwrite new business, renewals, and mid term adjustments within published guidelines and authorities.
- Enter policies onto IT systems in line with the Commercial Underwriting Practices Manual.
- Ensure adequate pricing and classification of risks in accordance with Underwriting Guidelines and rating considerations, liaising with the Actuarial Department.
- Obtain necessary information to select high quality business within the product segment.
- Maintain business within the gross and net capacity agreed each year in the ceded reinsurance programme.
- Monitor market developments and maximise opportunities while minimising threats within the product(s).
- Research and develop new and existing product areas.
- Ensure policy documentation accurately reflects coverage and service standards.
- Promote Travelers products, distribution strategy, and underwriting philosophy to brokers and customers, maximizing growth and profit opportunities.
- Maintain underwriting standards and conduct competency audits to ensure compliance with the Commercial Underwriting Practice Manual.
- Provide high quality risk management service to customers.
- Handle referrals and underwrite complex and high profile accounts.
- Set and maintain underwriting guidelines for assigned product(s) in collaboration with Chief Underwriting Officers and Technical Solutions.
- Review and maintain underwriting authority documents for assigned product(s).
- Define work objectives and goals for employees and manage performance, including hiring and compensation decisions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher education level.
- Relevant underwriting experience with a thorough understanding of the assigned product(s).
- Advanced proficiency in organisation, financial acumen, communication, collaboration, presentation, networking, risk selection, and analytical thinking.
- Advanced leadership skills in change management, strategic planning, decision making, results orientation, influencing, business perspective, risk taking, and innovation.
- Leadership skills in forging synergy, developing employees, building collaborative relationships, effective communication, and participative management.
- Personal leadership attributes such as openness to influence, flexibility, credibility, self awareness, and a desire to learn.
- Preferred advanced qualification in insurance (e.g., ACII or equivalent).
- Extensive understanding of UK Professional Indemnity or Financial Institutions and Management Liability.
