Job Description
Responsibilities
  • Oversee all UK inbound and outbound international freight activities, ensuring full compliance with global trade regulations.
  • Maintain and leverage our Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) status; act as the primary lead for internal and external HMRC/customs audits.
  • Manage and maintain all necessary export licences, ensuring strict adherence to controlled goods regulations.
  • Apply a deep understanding of cross border tax implications (VAT, tariffs, duties) to mitigate financial risks and optimise landed costs.
  • Oversee the end to end movement of goods domestically within the UK and internationally across global trade lanes.
  • Manage relationships with third party carriers, freight forwarders, and 3PL providers; negotiate contracts and SLAs to drive performance and cost savings.
  • Design and manage robust repair/reverse logistics workflows to minimise turnaround times and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Continuously analyse supply chain data to identify bottlenecks, implementing Lean or Six Sigma methodologies to drive operational excellence.
  • Act as the logistics lead during mergers & acquisitions, assessing target supply chains, identifying synergies and integrating acquired networks.
  • Apply a strong understanding of the UK freight market, transport regulations and infrastructural networks to optimise routing and carrier selection.

Qualifications and experience
  • Substantial experience in logistics, domestic distribution and international freight management within the UK market.
  • Proven track record managing AEO accreditations, export licensing and complex HMRC/customs audits.
  • Strong understanding of international trade tax implications and a history of delivering demonstrable cost savings.
  • Extensive experience selecting, negotiating with and managing third party freight forwarders and carriers.
  • Operational knowledge of general warehouse operations and inventory control principles (desired).
  • Previous exposure to M&A integrations, supply chain restructuring or complex project management.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, excellent negotiation skills and the ability to communicate complex trade requirements to non technical stakeholders.
