Job Description
We have an open position for a Professor / Associate Professor ofComputational Genomics in Health and Disease at University CollegeLondon. The post is based in the Department of Genetics, Evolution andEnvironment, and the UCL Genetics Institute, and is funded by the UCLHealth Strategy.Deadline 25th March.Link: role:We seek to appoint an outstanding academic as a Professor or AssociateProfessor of Computational Genomics in Health and Disease. The postwill be based within the Genetics, Evolution and Environment (GEE)department. The postholder will lead a world-class research programme atthe interface of human genomics, computational biology and evolutionarypopulation genetics to understand the molecular and evolutionary processesthat generate diversity that influences health and disease. The candidatewill combine experimental and computational approaches in the study offundamental biological questions. Research areas of particular interestinclude: 1) The origin and evolution of germline mutations in humans;2) The genetic bases of disease or health-related phenotypes andtheir differences among populations; 3) The dynamics of population andevolutionary processes on the fate of genetic variants that shape healthand disease. We particularly welcome interdisciplinary approaches thatare rooted in theory. Fundamental and evolutionary approaches (which arestrong in our department) are very welcome, as long as they further ourunderstanding of human health or disease. The post includes start-upfunds and is an exciting opportunity to join an excellent and dynamicscientific community in the heart of London.Who we are:The Division of Biosciences of UCL is a foremost centre for research andteaching in the biological sciences. We have an outstanding internationalreputation and a community of over 500 staff and more than 300 PhDstudents engaged in cutting edge research and collaboration. WithinBiosciences, the Research Department of Genetics, Evolution andEnvironment (GEE) provides a stimulating and diverse research andtraining environment of international standing in exciting areas ofcomputational biology, human genetics, evolutionary and populationgenomics, development, aging, microbiology, ecology and biodiversity. TheUCL Genetics Institute (UGI) is an internationally leading centre forgenomics within GEE. UGI focuses on the development and application ofcomputational tools for large genomic datasets to address importantquestions in biology ranging from the genetic determinants of humandisease, the origin and evolution of modern humans, the processesmediating environmental adaptations, the improvement of crop varieties orantibiotic resistance. Collectively we aim to help address major currentchallenges such as population health disparities, food security or thebiodiversity crisis through the study of genomes. We are located in theheart of London.
