Job Description
Tutor - Woodcraft & Woodland Management

40 hours per week, 52 weeks per year.

FTE Salary £25,494.483 - £32,900.20 per annum (subject to teaching qualifications and relevant experience).

Overview

The post holder will be working with a small group of students, delivering woodland based qualifications, woodcraft & woodland management skills and other land & craft based activities including green woodwork and primitive technology experiences throughout the seasons and be an active member of the Woodland Team. Willingness to work outdoors and feeling comfortable in all weathers, as well as working with hand tools and having experience working with woodland machinery, including chainsaws (in house training/guidance can be provided).

Qualifications
  • Experience of working with young people and vulnerable adults with special needs, challenging behaviours and mental health difficulties.
  • Teaching qualification or willingness to work towards this.
  • Appreciation of Biodynamic principles (training will be provided; applicant will take part in Ruskin Mill Trust Biodynamic Training Programme (2 years .
  • Must hold, be working towards, or prepared to work towards relevant teaching qualifications in accordance with government regulations.
Key Duties
  • Deliver teaching and training with a therapeutic and supportive approach, wherever possible linking students' learning activities through a methodology of the Trust, Practical Skills Therapeutic Education.
  • Instil enthusiasm and enjoyment into the learning process to lead to increased self-esteem and enhanced engagement in learning.
  • To be part of ongoing assessment of students' learning needs and to make reasonable adjustments as required minimising barriers to learning and achievement.
  • To familiarise with student background information, profile and risk assessment wherever reasonably possible.
  • Attend training sessions as required by the Trust, which may be outside of your usual working hours.
  • Work with the Woodlands Senior Tutor and RMC Land Manager to manage the day-to-day running of the Woodland Centre, Park Wood and any adjacent college woodland areas with regards to managing the land, the care and the development of infrastructure (public footpaths, hedges, trees and wild areas). Processing of raw materials for the green wood workshop.
