Job overviewThis post is available from February 2026 for 6 months. The duties meet the requirements of the CT3 Equivalent (Stage 1 'top up') posts as detailed by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. The 2021 RCoA Anaesthetics curriculum will be followed. Duties include pre, peri and post operative management of surgical patients, assisting with the care of ICU patients, and provision of assistance with resuscitation calls. Training opportunities are provided as per the Royal College of Anaesthetists guidance, and successful completion of the year will award a Stage 1 evidence certificate.
Main duties of the jobThe duties include pre, peri and post operative management of surgical patients, assisting with ICU care, and providing assistance with resuscitation calls.
Other responsibilities include:
- Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital.
- Communication with other hospitals.
- Teaching - the postholder may be involved in teaching other doctors, medical students, nurses, and other paramedical staff in the team in speciality and special interest.
- Participation in all on call rotas. The department manages three tiers of cover - Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU - with rotation through all disciplines. All rota's are EWTD compliant and maintain a 1:10 on call ratio.

Person specification Experience / Qualifications- Completed at least two years postgraduate training at CT1 and CT2 level in a relevant training programme.
- Full GMC Registration with licence to practice.
- Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent.
- Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
- Understanding of clinical risk management.
- Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
- Experience and ability to work in multi professional teams.
- Understanding of NHS, Clinical governance and resource constraints.
- Evidence of managerial skills: achievements or courses attended.
- Evidence of an interest and commitment to teaching.
- Recognised teaching qualification.
- Evidence of participation in audit.
- Prizes and honours.
- Appropriate progression of career to date.
- Good communication skills, both oral and written.
