Job Description
Trust Doctor Paediatrics (Middle Grade ST3-ST8)

At University Hospital Tees we have high ambitions and as a Group we are committed to delivering more together for the populations we serve. This is an exciting opportunity for a ST3+ trust doctor to join the paediatric team at trust registrar level.

This post involves work in an outpatient capacity at both South Tees and North Tees/Hartlepool sites to help with wait times and support care closer to home for families. Applications are invited from doctors with experience in both community and general paediatrics with the opportunity to develop interests according to needs of the department and personal interests.

The successful applicant will contribute to our outpatient based services, supporting general paediatric clinics in both acute and community services. This may include the provision of health assessments for Children in Care, neurodisability clinics, and the development of pathways supporting Care Closer to Home. The successful candidate will be provided with opportunity to develop their specific interests subject to service/population need.

At least 12 months as middle grade experience in UK NHS is essential for this post with previous outpatient clinic experience in the relevant fields.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Deliver clinics covering all aspects of community child health including assessment and follow up of children with a range of neurodevelopmental concerns such as complex neuro disabilities and associated health needs.

Work closely as part of local multidisciplinary teams (Physiotherapy, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, dietitian, epilepsy team, specialist nurses, audiology, orthopaedics, orthotics, psychology) and wider multidisciplinary teams such as genetics, neurology tertiary services and multi agency teams (Safeguarding, CAMHS and Getting Help team).

Person Specification Qualification & Training
  • At least 12 months of middle grade paediatrics experience in the UK NHS with previous outpatient experience.
  • Full GMC registration by job start date.
  • Medical degree (MBBS) or equivalent.
  • MRCPCH Part I and Part II or equivalent.
  • APLS or equivalent.
  • Completed at least four years of full time post graduate training (or part time equivalent) including at least two years in Paediatrics.
  • Successful completion of Level 2 Safeguarding Children: Recognition and Response in Child Protection (or equivalent).
  • Experience in community Child Health and/or neurodisability.
Clinical experience and effectiveness
  • Ability to manage common chronic paediatric disorders.
  • Ability to prioritise clinical need.
  • Ability to independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatments for community paediatrics presenting with complex undifferentiated or undefined presentations.
  • Recognise and assess safeguarding needs, completing referrals and attending strategy and conference meetings.
  • Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately in complex, urgent situations.
  • Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk.
  • Evidence of recent clinical audit, quality improvement activity or clinical guideline update.
Teaching & Training experiences
  • Ability to teach and train junior staff.
  • Evidence of experience in teaching and education.
  • Previous research experience.
