Job Description

Weare looking to recruit a higher specialist paediatric trainee to join the teamfrom March 2026 for a period of 6 months with the opportunity to extendfurther. On call duties will be on the general paediatric HST rota. This is abusy tertiary service for paediatric nephrology covering a catchment populationof over 1 million children from ethnically diverse backgrounds. The doctor intraining would gain experience in in all areas of the Paediatric NephrologySpeciality Curriculum including management of Acute Kidney Injury (peritonealdialysis, haemodialysis & continuous Ven venous haemodialysis/filtration)and chronic kidney disease (pre-dialysis, peritoneal dialysis, haemodialysis& transplantation 12 paediatric transplants/yr). General paediatric renalservices include the investigation and management of children with: Nephrotic/Nephritic syndrome; urinary tract infection and congenital anomalies of theurinary tract; renovascular disease / hypertension; renal tubular &metabolic disorders & renal stone disease.

Main duties of the job

Thedaytime role will be primarily based on the paediatric Nephrology ward (L50).The post holder will be involved in the day to day management of inpatients andtake part in outpatient clinics. The post-holder will have the opportunity toparticipate in medical audit andlocal/multi-centre research projects.

Theout of hours commitments will include working covering the general paediatricwards and working on the acute Childrens assessment and treatment (CAT) unitwhich receives referrals from GPs, Paediatric Emergency department, communitynurses/midwives. The registrar will be outlining the management plan andoverlooking the patient flow. You will also be required to assist in preparingdischarge letters, Initiation/change of treatment and discussions withrelatives

Job responsibilities

Thisrole is suitable for applicants at ST3+ / Registrar (middle grade level) withexperience in paediatrics. It is ideally suited to candidates wishing to workin a large teaching hospital which provides many specialist services and isideal for anyone wishing to pursue a career in paediatrics.

Person Specification Eligibility, Fitness to practice, and Language Skills
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practice from, the GMC at intended start date
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent by intended start date
  • Is up to date and fit to practice safely and is aware of own training needs.
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
Qualifications
  • MRCP/MRCPCH or equivalent
Experience
  • Evidence of at least 36 months experience in Paediatric Medicine Part 2 written MRCPCH and considering applying for clinical or equivalent post-graduation degree
  • Evidence of paediatric training to ST3 competencies or above
  • Previous experience working at a Registrar level
