Trust Doctor in Anaesthetics (ST3)

The Anaesthetic Department at the Kent & Canterbury Hospital is looking to recruit dynamic and forward thinking individuals to join our team of friendly, dedicated clinicians. Our hospital undertakes all elective and emergency vascular surgery for Kent and Medway, urological (including major cancer and robotic surgery). A range of day surgical specialties are also represented, including: dental and maxillofacial surgery, ENT, general surgery (including paediatrics), ophthalmology, Interventional Radiology, MRI and endoscopy. Our Elective Orthopaedic Centre offers the opportunity to work in a state of the art operating theatre suite, and become a part of a nationally renowned regional anaesthesia team.

Main duties of the job

The duties of the post include supporting the ITU and the perioperative management of surgical patients. Anaesthetic services are provided for elective and emergency surgery in the main operating theatre complex of 5 theatres. In addition, there are 2 day surgery theatres, 1 endovascular theatre, 1 ophthalmic theatre and a new 4 theatre Elective orthopaedic unit. Anaesthetic services also support the MRI suite and the endoscopy unit. Other responsibilities include: (i) Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital. (ii) Communication with other hospitals.

The on call commitments are on a 1 in 8 rota and will involve covering theatre emergencies and ITU. The post is for 48 hours per week. The duties and responsibilities in this job description may need further discussion in the future to ensure that they continue to meet the needs of the service, future service developments and the post holder.

Person Specification Qualifications and Training
  • Full GMC registration and licence to practice
  • Have completed basic postgraduate training at CT level in an anaesthetic training programme.
  • Have completed Initial Assessment of Competence (IAC) or equivalent and also achieved Competence in Obstetric Anaesthesia
Skills and Experience
  • Worked within the NHS
  • Possess a wide range of clinical skills, knowledge and IT expertise

  • Primary FRCA or equivalent overseas degree
