TRUSTDOCTOR IN THE DEPARTMENT OF ANAESTHETICS (ST3-5 EQUIVALENT)

Weare inviting applications to fill our Trust Doctor vacancy at The LeedsTeaching Hospitals NHS Trust in the Department of Anaesthesia.

Thispost will commence as soon as possible and is fixed term for one years.

Candidatesmust be fully registered with the General Medical Council and hold a license topractice by the intended start date.

Main duties of the job Thesuccessful applicant will have regular training lists across a broad spectrumof specialties as mutually agreed at interview and will contribute to the out of hours service by being part of the on call teamalongside the anaesthetic trainees. All out of hours call rotas at Leeds are a1 in 8 working pattern and are compliant with European Working Time Directivelegislation and the 2016 contract. When not working out of hours, successfulapplicants will have a mixture of consultant supervised and solo lists (whereappropriate).

LEVELSOF RESPONSIBILITY

Thesuccessful candidate will mainly have supervised theatre lists with Consultanttrainers but it is envisaged that the candidate will have the opportunity todevelop their own confidence in their areas of interest and work with localsupervision independently

Thesuccessful applicant will have a named consultant supervisor and undergoregular appraisal and actively take part in the GMC revalidation process.During these meetings any specific training requirements and educational goalscan be defined

TEACHINGAND RESEARCH/STUDY AND TRAINING

Thepost can provide the applicant experience in anaesthetic subspecialty blocksnot available in most hospitals subject to availability. It is envisaged thatsuch experience if appropriately documented and supported with work placedbased assessments and regular appraisal would be of benefit to those seeking tojoin speciality training in Anaesthesia

Thereis an excellent range of postgraduate medical activities at Leeds TeachingHospitals directed by the PGME centre which has bases at both the LeedsGeneral Infirmary and St Jamess University Hospital.

LeedsTeaching Hospitals is the main provider of postgraduate training inAnaesthesia in the West Yorkshire region. As such we have extensiveexperience of supporting and preparing trainees in their professional goalsof achieving the FRCA examinations and securing consultant positions. We havea highly skilled and motivated consultant body who maintain a strong interestin teaching, training and examining, and this culture will be of benefit tothose wishing to complete FRCA examinations.

TheLeeds Teaching Hospitals is the principle teaching hospital for the MedicalSchool at the University of Leeds and the post holder will be encouraged toparticipate fully in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.

Thispost is for an initial term of 1 year with the option to extend if mutuallyagreeable.

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Primary FRCA examination or equivalent
  • Be eligible for full registration with, and hold a current licence to practise from, the GMC at intended start date
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent (as required to complete Foundation competences) by intended start date
  • Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients & colleagues demonstrated by one of the following
  • Applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English. OR
  • Achieved minimum score of 7 across all 4 of the following categories in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application
