Treasurer - Trustee
Posted 8 days 3 hours ago by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre
The Nystagmus Network, a small registered charity in England & Wales (Charity No. ), supports people living with nystagmus (a complex eye condition, characterised by involuntary movements of the eyes) via information, support, awareness and research.
We are looking for a new Treasurer with a background in finance to join our Board of Trustees. You'll be central to ensuring financial health as we continue to support, advocate and fund research for the nystagmus community.
Responsibilities- Oversee bookkeeping (Xero), financial reporting and internal controls
- Set up and manage monthly online payments (supplier invoices, payroll, expenses)
- Present financial accounts at quarterly committee meetings
- Prepare annual accounts and coordinate independent examination
- Draft the annual budget in liaison with subcommittees
- Manage Gift Aid claims (once every couple of years)
- Work closely with trustees and the small staff team to guide spending and strategic decisions, and assist with fundraising proposals
We are seeking someone with a background in finance, with good judgment and the ability to explain financial concepts clearly to non-finance people. Experience in charity finance is a plus, but not mandatory as you will receive a comprehensive handover from the outgoing treasurer - enthusiasm, integrity and commitment matter just as much.
Given our community's lived experience, applicants who have nystagmus or sight loss, or support someone who does, are especially welcome. nystagmusnetwork.org
Time commitment & logistics- The committee meets quarterly on a Saturday morning, usually online
- The finance & governance committee meets monthly online for 1 hour
- Overall time commitment is approx 5-10 hours per month
- There are also optional opportunities to meet in person at events during the year
- Reasonable out-of-pocket expenses reimbursed
Why join us? You'll help steer the financial health of a small but impactful charity delivering support, information and research for those living with nystagmus. You'll get experience in governance, work alongside passionate trustees and staff, and contribute directly to a cause that matters deeply to many.
