The Role- Operational Leadership & Team Management
- Oversee, support, and motivate a team of Front Line Delivery Officers
- Ensure daily work instructions are acknowledged and operational readiness is achieved
- Assist colleagues and customers by responding to queries promptly and effectively
- Provide driver resilience where required, with agreement from the Principal Transport Planning Officer
- Train new drivers on company policies, procedures, safety protocols and operational standards
- Support ongoing staff development and ensure consistent delivery of high quality services
- Oversee daily operational processes for Demand Responsive Transport, Public Transport and Home to School Transport services
- Coordinate transport operations, ensuring adequate staffing and vehicle resources are available
- Create a weekly ROTA and distribute to staff
- Monitor and alert management to operational risks or resourcing issues
- Deliver transport services in line with journey plans, timetables and delivery manifests, maintaining a strong customer focused approach
- Provide cover for staff when required
- Manage operational routing and re routing during service disruptions
- Address and resolve service complaints and incidents
- Ensure vehicles, equipment and staff are compliant with relevant safety and operational standards
- Conduct daily lone worker check ins and manage health and safety concerns
- Facilitate daily administrative processes including annual leave submissions, equipment maintenance, uniform management, cash handling, claims processing and fleet checks
- Ensure accurate signing in and submission of cash takings
- Use ICT systems to support quality monitoring and operational reporting
- Provide daily and weekly KPI reports to the Principal Lead
- Maintain a current and valid PCV driving licence and ensure it is available for routine checks
- Undertake training to obtain a local private hire taxi licence
This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon. The office and depot will be closing in 2027. Consultation is underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood, which may be at Weston Super Mare or within North Somerset.
As part of the recruitment process, applicants will be required to undertake an operational assessment before progressing to interview.

About YouWe are looking for caring, compassionate individuals to work for a front facing and customer focused service within the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU). You should be confident in working independently but also a keen team player. Being a clear and strong communicator that offers experience and understanding of supporting vulnerable people will be beneficial to the role. We are keen to invite interest that can demonstrate transferable skills within your career to date although full training and continuous professional development is offered.
You will be required to give clear instruction and oversee operational activities working within existing procedures and routines with limited supervision. Under the direction of the Principal Operations Lead, you will deliver high quality customer focused services that support the work of the ITU, which includes such services as Home to School, Demand Response and Public Transport.
Successful applicants will be fully supported with training and shadowing opportunities as part of an induction and a be part of a dedicated staff team.
A flexible working approach will be required, across both Clevedon and Weston Super Mare sites.

- Is confident using ICT systems to support operational delivery and reporting
- Holds a valid PCV licence
- This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check
