Job Description
To lead and oversee all aspects of the UK Flatbed Operation, ensuring full compliance, high customer service standards, and achievement of profitability targets. The role works closely with European and Irish operations to drive efficiency, maximise resource utilisation, and deliver continuous improvement across all Flatbed divisions.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee the day-to-day operation of a 60-70 vehicle flatbed fleet, ensuring optimal utilisation and performance.
- Own and manage the P&L, controlling costs and delivering against budget and profitability targets.
- Monitor and drive performance against KPIs, taking corrective action where required.
- Take ownership of customer KPIs, ensuring high service levels and prompt resolution of queries.
- Plan workloads and manage staffing levels to maximise operational efficiency, including managing absence and holiday cover.
- Lead, motivate, and develop the team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Ensure effective use of company assets and subcontractors to support operational delivery.
- Work collaboratively with UK, Irish, and European teams to maximise cross-channel efficiencies.
- Support and engage in change initiatives and continuous improvement projects.
- Ensure full compliance with all legal, regulatory, and company standards, including Health & Safety.
- Maintain and regularly review risk assessments, ensuring safe working practices at all times.
- Attend and contribute to internal and external management meetings.
- Identify market opportunities across regions to support operational growth and efficiency.
- Proven experience managing large-scale transport/logistics operations and teams.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness, including P&L ownership and cost control.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to motivate, delegate, and develop teams.
- Effective communicator, able to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Highly organised with strong planning and prioritisation skills.
- Proactive and resilient, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
- Customer-focused, with a commitment to delivering high service standards.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and act on performance data.
- Good IT literacy across standard business systems.
- Sound understanding of Health & Safety and compliance within an operational environment.
