Job Description

Role: Trainee Solicitor - Private Client Team

Our Private Client team provides a highly personal, trusted service-helping individuals and families prepare for the future, protect their assets, and navigate emotionally significant legal matters. From Wills and Powers of Attorney to managing Trusts and estates, this is a practice area rooted in empathy, trust, and long-term relationships.

What Your Traineeship Will Involve

Over the course of your 2-year traineeship, you will:

  • Assist with the drafting and preparation of Wills, Powers of Attorney and Trusts
  • Support Solicitors in the ongoing administration of estates and trusts
  • Liaise directly with clients and their families in sensitive, often life-changing circumstances
  • Help manage client affairs during their lifetime and following death
  • Conduct legal research, attend training sessions, and prepare legal documentation
  • Handle a small caseload under close supervision while gaining exposure to increasingly complex matters
  • Be supported by experienced colleagues, including Solicitors, Associates, and supervising Partners, as well as our Legal Support teams

This is a role for a thoughtful, proactive individual who values building strong relationships and providing excellent client service. You'll need a high level of discretion, empathy, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicating with clients and third parties via phone, email, and in person
  • Preparing legal documents and supporting the administration of estates and trusts
  • Maintaining accurate client records using our online case management system
  • Attending internal training and development sessions
  • Conducting legal research and contributing to team knowledge
  • Supporting solicitors and case handlers in day-to-day matters

What We're Looking For

  • 2:1 or above in Scots Law LLB (or accelerated degree)
  • Diploma in Legal Practice
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Confidence dealing with sensitive matters and client contact
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Previous experience in a legal, client-facing, or administrative role
  • Familiarity with legal case management systems

  • Salary in line with Law Society of Scotland recommended rates
