Job overviewTrainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner - Asthma Respiratory, Band 7 (Developmental) with progression to Band 8a on qualification.
We are offering an opportunity to join our Respiratory Asthma Service as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (Band 7) with a clearly defined pathway to progression as a Qualified ACP (Band 8a). This role is for a registered nurse with substantial experience in asthma or respiratory care, either currently practicing at an advanced specialist level or aspiring to do so.
The post is supported by a structured development programme aligned to the Multiprofessional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice. You will contribute to assessment, diagnosis and management of patients with asthma, including those with complex and high-risk disease. You will progressively develop autonomous clinical decision making, with supervision, education and proficiency assessment.

Main duties of the job- Develop and provide comprehensive clinical care, specialist advice and support to patients in Special Airway service.
- Develop experience as an advanced, autonomous practitioner alongside the multidisciplinary team in Special Airways service.
- Competent in performing and interpreting spirometry and FeNO tests, able to run independent nurse-led clinics to diagnose and treat patients with airways disease (primarily asthma), with direct experience and involvement in airways disease research.
- Demonstrate and develop proficiency across the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership and management, education and research, evidenced through the academic programme and a portfolio of professional practice.
- Deliver the biologics service.
- Role model the values of the OUH, delivering person-centred care and service improvement.
- Work towards expanding knowledge and skills in advanced clinical practice, including prescribing of medications, therapies, lifestyle advice and care where appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilitiesClinical:
- Practice in compliance with their professional code of conduct; responsible and accountable for decisions, actions and omissions at this level of advanced practice.
- Develop a broadened level of responsibility and autonomy, recognising limits of competence and scope of practice, including when working with complexity or risk.
- Develop professional judgment, escalate when needed, reflect on practice, and maintain self-awareness and adaptability.
- Use a range of assessment methods (history-taking, physical assessments, holistic assessments, risk factors, health needs assessments) and work in partnership with individuals, families and carers.
- Develop effective communication to support decision-making, planning care and promoting person-centred approaches.
Leadership and management:
- Initiate and develop effective relationships; clarify the tAP role within teams to enable productive working.
- Negotiate an individual scope of practice within policies and governance; manage risk and deliver high-quality care.

- Registered Healthcare Professionals
- First-level degree (HEI level 5 or 6) in undergraduate base profession
- Evidence of ability to study at level 7 or willingness to submit academic work for assessment
- Specialist postgraduate education/qualifications relevant to recruitment area
- Registered independent/non-medical Prescriber (or willing to undertake MSc)
- Supervision/mentoring or facilitating workplace learning qualification
- Leadership or management course or qualification
- Advanced life support or equivalent
- Completed MSc relevant to clinical area or specialty
- Significant experience within the specialty or transferable knowledge for the service
- Evidence of management and leadership skills
- Awareness of clinical governance and quality measures
