Job Description
Role Overview

To assist the department with the management of train crew resources in order to deliver a safe and reliable train service while managing traincrew costs on a weekly basis and ensuring that the most efficient plans are adhered to on a week to week basis.

Main Responsibilities
  • Produce cost effective rosters and diagrams that maximise the use of resources to meet customer demands while also adhering to safety standards, legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Ensure any diagrams produced with lodge turns have been highlighted to the relevant parties.
  • Liaise and build strong working relationships with Control to support short term planning requirements and diagrams.
  • Liaise effectively with the rest of the Planning Team to help facilitate diagrams in other locations.
  • Develop and adopt suitable measures to continuously improve performance and reduce costs.
  • Roster train crew to relevant turns on a weekly basis.
  • Record all accommodation instances and lodging allowances for the Finance Department.
  • Assist with managing taxi costs on a week to week basis with the aim of delivering cost improvements on a monthly basis.
  • Populate train planning grids as required.
Skills and Experience
  • Understanding of the railway industry.
  • Previous railway planning experience is essential.
  • Confident and proactive.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Remains calm under pressure and is capable of working to tight deadlines.
  • Logical approach to problem solving.
  • Working accurately with large amounts of data.
  • Strong organisational skills, with good time management.
  • Strong IT skills (Word, Excel and Outlook).
