Trade Union Organiser
£51,481 per annum (rising to £53,592 in April 2026)
Full time, 35 hours per week
Permanent contract

About the role

Home-based role within the East Midlands or Yorkshire and the Humber, or within reasonable travelling distance to meet the requirements of the post (subject to meeting homeworking assessment requirements, including a minimum broadband speed of 18Mbps and a dedicated space to work from).

In this role, you will be working collaboratively with other CSP organisers and colleagues across the wider Employment Relations and Union Services (ERUS) team, to support the continued development of the CSP as an effective trade union.

You will recruit members and local union reps while supporting workplace activity and campaigns to defend and improve working conditions.

The post-holder will be able to use their experience, knowledge and skills to help realise the CSP organising strategy, participating in operational and strategic planning and evaluating the outcome of activities.

To succeed in this post, you will be an excellent communicator with confident and credible presentation skills. You will have a good understanding of the role of workplace representatives and the particular issues for a trade union and professional body. You will also need to have sensitivity and skills in facilitation to enable members to find their own solutions to workplace issues.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an organiser within a trade union or equivalent expertise within another organisation.

The role involves extensive travel, chiefly within the areas of East Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber.

Flexible working

We currently have employees working part-time, job share, compressed hours, adjusted start and finish times, and other non-standard working patterns. We are open to considering alternative arrangements and would welcome discussion with successful candidates about any specific flexibility they may require, subject to organisational needs.

Accessibility and adjustments

To support an equitable and accessible recruitment experience, we actively encourage candidates to let us know if they require any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview stages. Please contact our HR Department and we will work with you to meet your needs.

Disability Confident Scheme

As part of the Disability Confident Scheme, candidates who declare a disability and meet the six essential criteria we have selected will normally be shortlisted for interview. There may be occasions, such as having a high-volume of applications, where it is not possible to interview all Disability Confident candidates who meet the six selected essential criteria for the role. We may wish to limit the overall numbers of interviews offered to both candidates with and without disabilities. In these circumstances, we will ensure that a proportionate number of disabled candidates are shortlisted for interview.

We are taking appropriate steps to create a workforce that reflects the diverse society in which we work and live in. Therefore, we particularly encourage applications from candidates under-represented in the CSP s workforce, including those from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds, those with disabilities and LGBTQIA+ people. Please note, all candidates will be expected to actively demonstrate their commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Belonging throughout the application and interview stages.
