Trade Store Assistant

Location: Portsmouth
Salary: Up to £30,000 DOE
Hours: full-time

Are you a customer-focused individual with strong communication skills and a proactive approach to sales?

We are looking for a Trade Store Assistant to join a busy and growing business based in Portsmouth. This is a varied, hands-on role where you will be responsible for providing excellent customer service, supporting the day-to-day running of the trade store and warehouse, and helping to drive sales.

This would suit someone who enjoys working with customers, is happy getting involved in a busy warehouse and trade counter environment, and has the confidence to proactively contact customers to identify sales opportunities.

As a Trade Store Assistant, you will be responsible for:
  • Providing excellent customer service both face-to-face and over the telephone
  • Serving customers at the trade counter and processing cash and card transactions accurately
  • Picking and preparing customer orders and collections
  • Maintaining a well-stocked, organised and professional trade counter
  • Supporting the day-to-day operation of the trade store and warehouse
  • Checking deliveries and stock transfers and booking stock onto the system accuratelyPutting stock away and maintaining accurate stock control
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping across the trade store and warehouse
  • Making proactive outbound calls to existing and prospective customers to identify sales opportunities
  • Supporting local sales initiatives, promotions and customer engagement activities
  • Ensuring all Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Completing relevant paperwork and system transactions accurately
To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:
  • Previous customer service experience, ideally within a trade, retail, warehouse or similar environment
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Confidence in speaking to customers both face-to-face and over the phone
  • A proactive approach to sales, including making outbound calls and identifying opportunities
  • The ability to build strong and lasting customer relationships
  • Good IT skills and confidence using stock and sales systems
  • A strong team-focused approach
  • Good organisation and attention to detail
  • Awareness of safe handling and Health & Safety procedures
  • A self-motivated attitude with the ability to work independently when required
  • A full UK driving licence.

A Counterbalance Forklift Licence would also be desirable, although this is not essential.
