Tooling / CAD Engineer - 6 months fixed term contract
Who are we:
Auxitrol Weston Operating Unit (OU) consists of 3 manufacturing plants: Auxitrol SAS (France), Weston Aerospace Ltd (UK), Auxitrol Weston (Mexico), with 3 R&D departments in France, UK, and Norwich Aero Products Inc (US). We also have 3 repair capabilities in France, UK, & Singapore.
Weston Aerospace Ltd has approximately 175 employees at Farnborough, responsible for designing and manufacturing temperature, speed, and pressure sensors for gas turbine and airframe applications. We also have a smaller manufacturing site in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire, dedicated to analogue indicators, with 16 employees.
Role & Job Summary:

Role Type: Fixed Term Contract (6 months)
The role involves driving core value drivers through team performance, focusing on value-based pricing, profitable new business, and productivity.
Primary Responsibilities:
We are seeking an experienced Tool Designer to support an NPI project. The role involves designing and developing tools for sensor product assembly and manufacture, advising on tooling queries, supporting re-work of existing tools, and collaborating with manufacturing companies and suppliers.
The candidate must have extensive experience in taking a design from concept to a proven part, and liaise with engineering and other departments for cost estimation.
All employees are expected to promote teamwork, assist in training, maintain safety and cleanliness, ensure quality, and report as scheduled.
Qualifications/Skills/Experience:
Essential:
- Minimum 5 years proven experience in a similar role
- CAD / SolidWorks proficiency, capable of creating 3D models and drawings
- Knowledge of BS8888, G&T engineering drawing standards
- Familiarity with COTS items used in jigs & fixtures
- Understanding of manufacturing methods: machining, EDM, fabrication, welding, additive manufacturing
- Knowledge of engineering materials and treatments
- Background in product and process improvement
- Mechanical/Electronic knowledge
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of AS9100 standards
- Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Understanding of PPAP & APQP processes
- Self-motivated with minimal supervision, capable of managing multiple tasks
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and BOMs
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Experience with additive manufacturing (FDM, DLP)
Desirable:
- FE analysis
- CNC/CAM capability (HAAS programming / SolidCAM)
- Experience with equipment: milling machines, lathes, grinders, hand tools, measuring devices
