Tobacco Dependence Advisor for the Emergency Department

We are looking for a highly motivated individual to support our inpatients with temporary tobacco abstinence whilst in hospital and underpin quit attempts.
This exciting role will involve helping patients to reframe their approach to their smoking behaviours, managing their cravings with personalised support plans and tailoring those treatment plans, which titrate nicotine replacement therapy, to support discharge planning and a longer term goal of being smoke free.
Main duties of the jobThe Tobacco Dependence Advisor for Inpatients will work across adult inpatient wards:
- undertaking tobacco dependence assessments,
- educating service users about options to manage their tobacco dependence
- and supporting quit attempts.
The Tobacco Dependence Advisor for Inpatients will be responsible for:
- creating personalised quit plans and assisting service users to access the support they need for their quit attempt both during their inpatient stay and after discharge.
- collecting data in accordance with the metrics required by the IC S and NHSE monitoring
- building rapport and acting as a support mechanism for Ward Staff with regards to Stop Smoking Support for inpatients.

Qualifications- National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) Level 3 in Health and Social Care OR an acceptable level 3 Qualification with equivalent experience.
- Good level General Education including Maths and English.
- NCSCT stop smoking advisor qualification or equivalent work experience to advanced level.
- Care certificate.
- Healthy lifestyle/Behavioural change experience within a healthcare/smoke free service setting
- Engagement/collaboration with communities, individuals and multidisciplinary teams
- Teaching/Training behavioural change to multidisciplinary teamsExperience of providing smoking cessation support
- Working in a hospital environment
- Evidence of continuing personal development
- Basic computer skills (knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Ability to prioritise workload
- Work effectively without direct supervision
- Knowledge of community public health services to enable effective signposting
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
- Assertive and confident
- Ability to present an open and non judgemental demeanour
- Audit skills
