Job Description
This post will involve the successful candidate working closely with the Tissue Bank Manager and Directors, the neuropathologists and other research technicians to collect, preserve, characterise and supply tissue samples of the highest quality to researchers studying multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions.
Main duties of the job The Tissue Bank Technician will assist in the collection and processing of donated human tissues samples from hospitals around the UK as directed by the Tissue Bank Manager and Coordinators. You will assist in the preparation of tissue sections for routine neuropathological examination, distribution of tissue sections to scientists and with the dissection and preservation of material. The role will require you to work out of hours, as part of the on-call rota system in place. You will be responsible for general laboratory and other duties: preparing the laboratory and necessary documentation for the dissection and the capture of images.There are two posts available, with the hope that one candidate will have a focus on histological techniques, and the other to have a focus on tissue culturing. Postholder's will still be expected to undertake training in all relevant areas of the tissue bank technician rol

Job responsibilities About the roleApplications are welcomed for the post of Tissue Bank Technician for the Multiple Sclerosis and Parkinson's Disease Tissue Bank, in the Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. The post is jointly funded by the Multiple Sclerosis Society and Parkinson's UK who have provided funding to facilitate the collection and preservation of human central nervous tissue for research into the causes and the treatment of multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.What you would be doingThis post will involve the successful candidate working closely with the Tissue Bank Manager and Directors, the neuropathologists and other research technicians to collect, preserve, characterise and supply tissue samples of the highest quality to researchers studying multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease and other neurological conditions. Detailed knowledge of dissecting and preserving CNS tissue both, Paraffin and Frozen, are essential. Excellent laboratory, organisational, skills, attention to detail and a flexible approach to working patterns are highly desirable.
