Job Description

The Marine Institute is the national agency responsible for marine research, technology, development and innovation (RTDI). The Institute works with the Department of Agriculture, Food and Marine (DAFM) and a network of other Government Departments, semi state agencies, national and international marine partners to assess and realise the economic potential of Ireland's marine resource, promote sustainable marine industry, and safeguard the marine environment through research and environmental monitoring.

Responsibilities
  • Undertake analysis of environmental contaminants such as trace metals, mercury and other parameters in environmental matrices (saline and non saline water, sediments and biota) using Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (ICP MS) and Cold Vapour Atomic Fluorescence Spectrometry (CV AFS).
  • Develop, optimise and validate new analytical methods.
  • Support national monitoring under the European Water Framework Directive, contributing to ensuring Irish coastal and transitional waters are clean and of good quality.
  • Actively contribute to maintaining the laboratory quality management system accredited to ISO 17025.
Qualifications
  • Citizen of the European Economic Area (EEA) or the United Kingdom (UK); or Swiss citizen under the European Union/Switzerland free movement agreement; or non EEA citizen who is a spouse or child of an EEA, UK or Swiss citizen and holds a Stamp 4 or Stamp 5 visa.
