Telehandler Operator

We are recruiting a Telehandler Operator to join our team at our new Barnsley site.
Barnsley operates as a ferrous and non-ferrous metals site, and this role will support material movement, stock management and general operational efficiency across both areas. You will be responsible for operating a telehandler safely and effectively within a busy industrial environment.
This is a skilled plant operator position requiring strong awareness of surroundings, disciplined machine operation and adherence to site safety standards.
Key Responsibilities- Operate a telehandler to move, lift and position materials across site
- Support loading and unloading of vehicles and containers
- Assist with stockpile management and material organisation
- Move equipment, bins or materials to support operational requirements
- Conduct daily pre-start checks and complete inspection records
- Identify and report mechanical defects or safety concerns
- Maintain clear communication with supervisors and plant operators
- Support general housekeeping and safe working practices
Operators are expected to take ownership of their allocated machine, including:
- Completing daily inspections and defect reporting
- Monitoring machine performance and wear
- Maintaining cleanliness of the cab and machine
- Operating within manufacturer guidelines and site procedures
- Operate plant in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures
- Wear appropriate PPE at all times
- Follow site traffic management plans
- Maintain vigilance around pedestrians and other moving plant
- Report hazards, near misses or unsafe behaviours immediately
- Support compliance with environmental and operational standards
- Valid Telehandler licence (e.g. NPORS or CPCS)
- Experience operating telehandlers within industrial, recycling or construction environments
- Strong awareness of safe plant operation
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced yard environment
- Reliable and safety-focused
- Experience within metal recycling
- Basic mechanical knowledge

- Competitive hourly rate (dependent on experience)
- Overtime paid after 40 hours per week
