About the role
We are recruiting a Technical Portfolio Manager for a large, nationally recognised organisation undergoing a significant digital and cultural transformation. This role sits within a purpose-driven organisation whose work has a direct and meaningful impact on people across the UK.
This is a newly created role, supporting a move away from programme-led delivery towards a continuous improvement model. You will have oversight of a portfolio of technical initiatives across Digital and Data, providing structure, governance, and clarity across multiple workstreams.
This role focuses on portfolio-level ownership, rather than hands-on delivery of individual projects.
Key responsibilities
- Own and manage a portfolio of technical change initiatives across Digital and Data
- Provide visibility of priorities, dependencies, risks, and resource capacity
- Support and contribute to technology governance forums and portfolio reporting
- Work closely with Project Managers, Architects, Developers, Data teams, and senior stakeholders
- Translate technical activity into clear, business-facing insight
- Constructively challenge teams to maintain momentum and delivery focus
No line management responsibility; strong Matrix working.
What we're looking for
- Experience in project and/or portfolio management within a technology environment
- Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives
- Strong understanding of technology and data change (hands-on technical skills not required)
- Confident communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Proactive, tenacious, and comfortable operating in complex, risk-aware environments
Desirable
- Portfolio/PMO governance experience
- Experience in large, complex or regulated organisations
Location & working pattern
- Hybrid working with an expectation of 2 days per week onsite in London
- Some flexibility supported, but onsite presence is important for this role
