Job Description

Job title: Tech Bar Engineer

Location: Glasgow

Status: Perm

Hours: 37.5 hours (Monday to Friday - 9am till 5:30pm)

Salary: Up to £30k

Job Description:

  • To provide a Tech Bar IT support service. To meet our customer needs, the role is reactive, and the resource will need to be happy to work to resolve issues quickly, predominantly working alone and in busy periods juggling several jobs at the same time prioritising the most urgent.
  • Will be the public face of the client IT department in what is a high-profile environment and will need to be comfortable dealing with people at all levels.
  • The expectation is that the Tech bar will be manned at all times. However, it is also acknowledged that the engineer, will be involved in floor walking, will require breaks. Therefore, it is important that a sign is displayed on the Tech bar, if unavailable.
  • Ensure that the work area is tidy and kit stored securely onsite
  • Hardware/software issues - advice and help on common commodity services - Windows, MS Office, mobile devices. Knowledge of troubleshooting Intel-based laptop hardware issues. This can include installing batteries/RAM.
  • Re-imaging of laptops with a standard build when pre-imaged machines are not available
  • Resolve connectivity issues, WIFI etc
  • Password resets (depends on access granted)
  • Provide printer support and advice
  • Provide assistance for new starters on their first day to ensure they can logon, access the applications and demonstrate how to use Teams. These need to be booked in advance and subject to Tech bar capacity
  • Provide a laptop health check service where customers can schedule time to have their laptop checked to proactively avoid any issues
  • Floor walking in general (if assistance is required by a user), but particularly during P1 incidents to ensure users are aware of issues and progress
  • Provide support to meeting room visitors either at tech bar location or in meeting room location to assist with network access or presentation set up
  • Replenish/replace stock in vending machines
  • Returns - Capture all items returned to the tech bar, on the system & excel reports
  • Prepare returns shipment before agreed collection date
  • Devices for return to Dartford, to be repaired, diagnose device, and label accordingly
  • Provide Smart Hands support

Key Skills:

  • Excellent skills in the use of PCs
  • Competent in Windows OS
  • ITSM Ticket-based toolsets in order to have an understanding and effectively manage workflow tickets (all work carried out MUST have a ticket).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to convey information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to liaise with individuals at all levels in the organization to obtain any information required to ensure compliance and customer specific requirements
  • Ability to listen to the customers and deal with any query or escalation effectively
