Job Description
Overview

Full-time Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm £92.63 per day. Based in Woodley, this role supports pupils aged 4 to 18 across a specialist school, with flexibility to move between classes and adapt to a wide range of needs, including MLD to PMLD. The environment can be lively and at times challenging, with some pupils displaying challenging behaviours. The role involves active, hands-on learning approaches and personal care responsibilities to maintain dignity and respect at all times.

Responsibilities
  • Move across the school to support different classes at short notice, adapting to the needs of younger and older pupils.
  • Support the development of early communication skills and assist with more complex or physical needs as appropriate.
  • Engage in sensory, physical, and hands-on learning activities; stay actively involved rather than seated for most of the day.
  • Provide personal care support, including toileting, while maintaining dignity and respect for all pupils.
  • Apply calm, de-escalation approaches as needed and remain composed in high-energy or challenging situations.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Naturally adaptable and comfortable with change throughout the day.
  • Ability to build rapport with children and young people of all ages and abilities.
  • Patient, nurturing, and down-to-earth approach.
  • Physical ability to stay on feet and be actively involved for most of the day.
  • Ability to remain positive in demanding situations.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, how to support a wide range of additional needs.
Compliance and Safeguarding

In line with regulatory requirements, the employer is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. You may be required to provide an up-to-date DBS and participate in other mandatory compliance checks in line with the DfE guidelines. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974 where applicable.
