Job Description

Modern languages are thriving at Calderstones School, and we want to keep it that way. With the majority of our Year 10 and 11 students choosing a language at GCSE, and Spanish offered and taken up at A Level, our MFL department is one of the most popular in the school. Year groups of 265+ students mean real breadth and ambition in what we deliver, and we're proud of it. Now we're looking for a talented, passionate Teacher of MFL to join a department that genuinely makes a difference.

Role

French is taught at KS3 and KS4; Spanish is taught throughout the school from KS3 to KS5. The successful candidate will teach French at KS3 and KS4, and Spanish at KS3 and KS4 (with desirability to teach Spanish to KS5). Applications from ECTs are warmly welcomed. The role is part of a well-supported team of ten, including a Head of Department, KS3 and KS4 Coordinators, and a Deputy Headteacher with direct responsibility for quality of education, offering clear pathways for development and additional responsibility.

Department

The MFL department is housed on the top corridor of our Arts Wing, comprising six purpose-built, modern, spacious teaching rooms each with a large stockroom and an interactive whiteboard. We have access to ICT suites across the site and a wide range of excellent resources, supporting a well resourced, well led department with a strong team culture.

School

Calderstones is a large, richly diverse 11-18 comprehensive adjacent to Calderstones Park and oversubscribed in every year group. Staff turnover is exceptionally low, reflecting a supportive working environment. We hold that every student and staff member deserves a first class education and maintain a standard of 'Good' in all areas as rated by Ofsted in 2023.

What We Offer You
  • Professional development is a genuine priority. We run a year round calendar of CPD training and events, and actively support staff in pursuing NPQ qualifications and further career development.
  • Staff wellbeing is underpinned by a robust framework that includes generous staff benefits, structured support, protected working hours, clear expectations around after hours contact, and PPA time that regularly exceeds the statutory minimum.
  • Opportunities to grow, whether that's taking on additional responsibilities, progressing through pay scales, or developing leadership skills, we invest in our people for the long term.
  • Outstanding facilities including a swimming pool, fully equipped gym, and ample secure staff parking on a well maintained, attractive campus.
  • A genuine community, diverse, warm, ambitious, and proud.
