Tax Manager
- Annual Salary: £50,000-£70,000 DOE

Overview of the Role
Reed Brighton is working with a well-established practice who are seeking an experienced and technically strong Tax Manager (ATT/CTA qualified) to take responsibility for a substantial portfolio of self-assessment tax returns.
This is a key managerial position within the firm, combining portfolio management, technical oversight, client advisory work and supervision responsibilities. The successful candidate will also have demonstrable experience in trust taxation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a portfolio of personal tax clients.
- Review and sign off self-assessment tax returns prepared by the tax assistant.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant deadlines (31 January, 31 July, etc.).
- Oversee workflow planning to ensure timely completion of returns.
- Manage HMRC correspondence and enquiries.
- Prepare and/or review trust tax returns (SA900).
- Advise on trust income tax, capital gains tax, and relevant property regime issues.
- Provide guidance on trust distributions and associated tax implications.
- Liaise with trustees and beneficiaries where required.
- Provide tax planning advice to individuals and trustees, including: Income tax planning, Capital gains tax planning, Inheritance tax considerations, Pension and investment tax matters
- Identify tax planning opportunities within the portfolio.
- Support the partners on complex advisory assignments.
- Supervise and support the tax assistant.
- Review technical work and provide training where required.
What we are looking for
Qualifications
- ATT and/or CTA qualified (CTA preferred).
- Minimum 5+ years' post qualification experience in personal tax within practice.
Technical Experience
- Strong experience managing a high-volume self-assessment portfolio.
- Proven experience in trust taxation (essential).
- Experience handling HMRC enquiries.
- Knowledge of inheritance tax and CGT planning desirable.
Skills & Attributes
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage deadlines.
- Comfortable managing a large portfolio efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
- Confident reviewing work and supervising junior staff.
- Commercial awareness and ability to identify advisory opportunities.
- Able to work independently in a small practice environment.
