Job Description

The role
  • Support Tax Manager on all tax related matters for HDI UK & Ireland
  • Support Tax Manager in tax matters across the areas of IPT, Corporation tax, Deferred Tax, PSA, and VAT, in conjunction with Group Functions as appropriate.
  • Assist in the completion and accuracy of tax returns including quarterly and annual reporting to Group Functions, as well as filing of returns with HMRC.
  • Own all IPT related processes across One HDI and other branches.
Key accountabilities
  • Preparation and coordination of IPT returns arising from the insurance transactions for all HDI entities and all other Branches of HDI Global Specialty.
  • Ensure correct IPT rates are used, and the correct information / supporting documents have been provided.
  • Liaison with Fiscal representatives for the settlement of IPT.
  • Own IPT monthly and quarterly journal processes and quarterly reconciliation to SAP ledger
  • Maintain up to date knowledge in relation to the various territories regulations for both direct and indirect tax matters.
  • Communicate any tax changes using various forums to relevant stakeholders, such as underwriters and the technical accountants.
  • Maintain and nurture relations with SOVOS, Underwriters, Technical Accountants and HO. clear overview and understanding of the potential tax liabilities for the UK & Ireland entities.
  • Assist Tax Manager in preparing VAT returns, PSA, Corporation tax, THDA reporting, Transfer Pricing and ad hoc tasks.
  • Support the wider branch with any queries related to tax that may arise (including WHT, Transfer pricing, GST, etc).
  • Implementation of process improvements to improve efficiency within scope of responsibility.

Skills & experience
  • Experience in a tax role within insurance
  • Good understanding of Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) and other related tax matters
  • Part-qualified accountant
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Competent user of Excel & Power BI
  • Good communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills; comfortable with phone & face to face discussions with underwriters & other technical colleagues
  • Able to organise own workload effectively to meet service standards
  • Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Good systems knowledge, experience of using systems to evaluate data
  • Good analytical and problem solving skills
