AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced systems development engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.
Your responsibilities include:
- Overseeing the launch of the ESC in collaboration with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.
- Collaborating with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of the ESC.
- Ensuring scalable services and a high-availability experience for EU customers.
- Participating in on-call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out of hours.
Typical day-to-day activities:
- Operating production systems ( 50% time) and working with the team to improve reliability, availability, and performance ( 50% time).
- Rooting cause and fixing deployment failures; executing sensitive time-critical changes to production.
- Participating in design discussions, writing code, and providing actionable feedback on the team's code.
Eligibility requirements:
- Fluency in written and spoken English.
- Must be a national of an EU member state and residing in the EU.
- Relocation support provided for successful applicants relocating within the European Union.
- Participation in an on-call rotation.
- National of an EU member state.
- Proven experience in software development or related field with proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Java, Typescript, Python, or Ruby).
- Demonstrated experience in engineering, working with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.
- Solid understanding of Linux and networking, and ability to troubleshoot and anticipate problems that affect performance, reliability, or availability of software systems.
- Able to lead the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and drive operational best practices.
- Experience with monitoring frameworks (e.g., CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).
- Experience actively mentoring junior engineers and working cross-organizationally, leading strategic team efforts requiring collaboration across team members.
- Experience supporting service in AWS or other cloud systems or services.
- Experience operating 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning software applications and optimizing fleet utilization.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).
