The Swing Shift Foreman oversees second-shift operations across fabrication, material processing, and machining. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high-quality production while leading teams through Leads and aligning all activities with production schedules and company standards.

Key Responsibilities

LEADERSHIP & TEAM MANAGEMENT

  • Lead Fabrication, Processing, and Machine Shop personnel through department Leads
  • Provide daily direction, coaching, and accountability
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement

PRODUCTION PLANNING & EXECUTION

  • Plan and assign daily work based on schedules
  • Coordinate workflow between processing, machining, and fabrication
  • Ensure all work orders, prints, and materials are ready for production
  • Adjust manpower and priorities to meet deadlines

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT

  • Track production rates, efficiency, and schedule adherence
  • Monitor crew productivity and equipment utilization
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks

QUALITY OVERSIGHT

  • Ensure compliance with ASME/API codes and WPS requirements
  • Maintain weld quality and dimensional accuracy
  • Ensure traceability, labeling, and documentation
  • Partner with QA/QC to prevent and resolve defects

SAFETY & EQUIPMENT

  • Enforce PPE and safety procedures
  • Ensure safe operation of all shop equipment
  • Maintain housekeeping and coordinate maintenance

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

  • Execute structured evaluation and progression system
  • Train and mentor employees across departments
  • Support cross-training and internal promotions
  • Develop high performers and reduce turnover
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5-10+ years in fabrication, processing, or machining
  • Experience in code welding (FCAW, SAW required)
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, machining, and tolerances
  • Leadership experience in a shop environment
  • Knowledge of ASME/API codes
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation:

  • Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds
  • Perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods (8-12+ hour shifts)
  • Stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl for prolonged periods
  • Reach overhead and work with arms extended
  • Climb ladders, work in manlifts up to 25 feet above ground
  • Work in confined spaces and at elevated heights when required
Work Environment
  • Exposure to dust, noise, and industrial hazards
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required at all times
Schedule Requirements
  • Ability to work extended hours, including overtime, weekends, or swing shifts as needed to meet project deadlines
