Our Rail Services division supports Grand Central (GC) which is an open access train operator linking the North East and West Yorkshire with London, Arriva TrainCare (ATC) who are a growing train maintenance company and Arriva Road Transport Services who are the rail replacement operator within the Arriva Group. The Role:
You will lead and implement Rail Services (RS) environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives. As the Sustainability Manager you will be responsible for developing and executing sustainability strategies that reduce environmental impact, ensuring regulatory compliance, and engaging internal and external stakeholders to develop a culture of environmental awareness and sustainability
What You'll Do:
Working with the ESG Director RS and Head of Safety, develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy and associated plans aligned with CSRD material topics, Rail Services objectives and industry best practices.
Oversee collation of data, monitoring and reporting on sustainability metrics including all data points required for CSRD reporting.
Ownership of the sustainability delivery plan and reporting on progress to Rail Services Exec (RSE)
Working with the Head of Safety, set up and provide SME leadership to RS Environment Forum.
Provide guidance to all Rail Services businesses on compliance with environmental laws, regulations, and sustainability-related certifications.
Provide guidance to RS HSEQ teams on environmental policy and procedures including environmental management systems.
Lead Rail Services-wide initiatives to reduce environmental impact and promote sustainable practices.
Collaborate with procurement, operations, and supply chain teams to assess and improve sustainability in sourcing and production.
Prepare sustainability and ESG reports as required by RSE and Arriva.
Conduct risk assessments and scenario analyses related to climate change and sustainability.
Serve as a subject matter expert and provide training to internal teams on sustainable practices, to include development and delivery of an accredited Carbon Literacy Training programme.
Engage with external partners, communities, and industry groups to promote sustainability leadership and provide regular updates through the internal communications channels.
Explore opportunities for sustainability accreditation, providing cost/benefit analysis and recommendations to RSE.
Prepare and present business cases for ESG initiatives.

What You Bring:
Qualifications - Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability or a related field
Experience - substantial experience working in sustainability, ESG or environmental compliance roles
Knowledge - strong knowledge of sustainability frameworks and standards
Skills - project management and data analysis skills are essential
Communication - excellent communication with the ability to engage stakeholders
Team - ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive change
