Job Opportunity: Surgical Breast Care Nurse (Maternity Cover)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Registered Nurse to join our well-established Surgical Breast Care Nursing Team. This is a temporary position to cover maternity leave, with the post expected to run until end of May 2026. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering compassionate, specialist care to patients undergoing breast surgery, working within a supportive and dynamic multidisciplinary team. The base is Laurel Unit Rugby St Cross, however cross site working is required, so the applicant must be a car driver. Applications are invited from experienced Registered Nurses with clinical experience in this field of nursing. This is a full time position working Monday to Friday 0900 - 1700.

A full UK driving license is essential for this post. Please note that an international driving license is not accepted.

Secondment will be considered for internal candidates - If you are successful after interview, you must obtain approval from your current line manager to accept the offer.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.

Main duties of the job
  • To provide high quality care for breast cancer patients and their families in the acute setting from diagnosis to adjuvant treatment.
  • The successful applicant will be responsible for caring and managing patients with a breast cancer diagnosis.
  • You must have the ability to work as an effective team member but also work autonomously.

Job responsibilities
  • Accountable for own actions in accordance with the Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute to corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies at all times.
  • Effectively communicate information regarding clinical decisions, policy and care pathways to breast patients/carers and the multi-professional team.
  • A skilled practitioner and clinical leader providing support to the management team, participating in service/policy development.
  • A resource for staff, advising on national, local and Trust policy and procedures/guidelines, ensuring that clinical governance is embedded in practice.
  • Responsible for clinical assessment of a group of breast patients ensuring appropriate care is planned, implemented, and evaluated/audited.
  • Demonstrate a high level of technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring; equipment management and defined expanded clinical roles e.g. seroma aspiration.
  • Responsible for education and training provision of identified staff groups, patients and carers within defined areas participating in supervision and mentorship as required.
