About The Martin Gallier Project

The Martin Gallier Project is a suicide prevention, intervention and postvention charity providing immediate, non-clinical support to anyone over the age of 16 who is affected by suicide.

We support:

  • Individuals experiencing suicidal crisis
  • People living with thoughts of suicide
  • Families supporting a loved one
  • Those bereaved by suicide

Our work is rooted in compassion, dignity and accessibility.

The charity was founded in memory of Martin Gallier, whose death in 2017 highlighted gaps in support and missed opportunities for intervention. Everything we do is shaped by the belief that earlier, kinder and more connected support can save lives.

We are dedicated to preventing suicide, reducing stigma and walking alongside families across the North West.

About the role

As we continue to grow, we are welcoming additional Suicide Intervention Workers to join our team on a full-time basis.

This role is centred on building trusting relationships with individuals and families affected by suicide. You will hold and support a caseload of clients, offering immediate access to non-clinical support in moments of vulnerability.

The role involves travel between our Crewe and Chester bases, so access to your own transport is preferred.

What the role involves

You will:

  • Offer immediate, compassionate access to non-clinical support for people affected by suicide
  • Make first contact with referrals and begin building supportive, trusting relationships
  • Provide timely responses to individuals experiencing suicidal crisis
  • Work collaboratively with clients to create personalised safety plans focused on safety and stability
  • Liaise thoughtfully with professionals in primary and secondary mental health services, as well as partner charities
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records in line with organisational policy
  • Support families with care and sensitivity
  • Attend fundraising and community awareness events
  • Take part in mandatory training and continued professional development

This role requires presence, empathy and the ability to remain steady when discussing suicide and crisis.

About you

You will bring:

  • Experience supporting people affected by suicide
  • A genuine commitment to suicide prevention
  • Experience managing a caseload responsibly
  • Clear and thoughtful verbal and written communication skills
  • Compassion, empathy and emotional awareness
  • The ability to work collaboratively within a supportive team

This role involves open conversations about suicide. Applicants should feel comfortable discussing suicide directly and supporting people in distress.

The successful candidate will be offered a funded place on ASIST Training (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training).

How we work

The Martin Gallier Project is open seven days a week from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

You will work 32.5 hours per week across five days, including some weekends.

Our team is committed, caring and community-focused. We support one another as much as we support our clients.

Benefits
  • Company pension
  • Funded ASIST Training
  • 28 days annual leave
  • Continued professional development
  • Opportunities for progression
  • Private healthcare insurance after two years' service
