Job Description
Sugarhouse Team Member 2026/27

The Sugarhouse is the nightclub owned and operated by Lancaster University Students' Union. The Sugarhouse is looking for student staff to work as part of a team providing an efficient and friendly service to students and members alike. They are recruiting for the academic year, on a flexible part time basis.

In this role, candidates can expect a minimum of one shift per week academic year 2026/27; Wednesday, and Friday nights, 10pm to 4am, ad hoc Saturday nights 10pm-4am with occasional additional nights and various days for marketing activity. Hours of work may vary. You also need to be able to work Welcome Week 2026 (26th September - 3rd October 2026) and the last Friday of each term.

Expected End Date:31st July 2027

Interview Date:25th August 2026

Working Pattern: Approximately 10 Hours per week, M aximum of 20

Location:On the Lancaster University Campus and at the premise of an external employer

Job Description
  • To take payment and scan tickets at the front door.
  • To work behind the bar serving drinks.
  • To stock the bar with drinks, glasses and ice.
  • To collect glasses, wash them and return them to the bar.
  • To work in the cloakroom taking customers' personal belongings and issuing tickets.
  • To carry out light cleaning duties; including washing tables, mopping floors and maintaining a decent standard of cleanliness in the toilets.
  • To attend appropriate training sessions.
  • To attend regular staff meetings.
  • To be willing to take part in marketing activities for the venue.
  • To uphold the Union's environmental, sustainable and ethical policies and to carry out similar duties as directed by the Chief Executive or her nominee.
Person Specification
  • Due to the nature of the role, the applicant must be 18+.
  • Current Lancaster University or University of Cumbria student, must be available in academic year.
  • Polite, friendly and well presented at all times.
  • Excellent communication skills, both as part of a team and in a forward facing customer service role.
  • Reliable and trustworthy
  • Able to stay calm under pressure
  • Previous experience in a hospitality role
