Reports To: Wardrobe Manager

Working Hours: 8am - 4pm

Place of Work: Alton Towers Resort

About the Role

The Stitcher will be constructing and/or altering costumes for the Halloween season at Alton Towers Resort as assigned by the Wardrobe Manager. This role focuses on the use of sewing machines and hand sewing to finish costumes to a high quality standard that is in line with the design specifications.

Key Responsibilities

• Construct and/or alter all assigned costumes according to the Costume Shop Manager's specifications.
• Actively participate in a team consisting of a Wardrobe Manager and other stitchers.
• Understand the period, style, and techniques necessary to complete the costume within the costume designer's guidelines.
• Maintain the integrity of the costume design.
• Be comfortable using domestic and serger sewing machines.
• Skillfully work with stretch fabrics, beading and sequins.
• Apply advanced skills in hand and machine sewing and finishing with an understanding of theatrical costume and construction techniques and terms.
• Demonstrate proficiency in hand sewing techniques.
• Employ a variety of costume construction techniques including tailoring, period construction techniques, and alterations.
• Apply knowledge in theatrical construction and quick rigging techniques.
• Understand period shape and how to adapt it to theatrical costumes.
• Collaborate with the costume team to efficiently complete assigned projects.
• Listen, take instruction, and participate in a team to complete builds/alterations.
• Use excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and vendors.
• Work well under tight deadlines, in a fast paced and high pressure environment.
• Lift at least 20 lbs and climb or reach on ladders.
• Preferably have experience in the live entertainment and event production industries.

Qualifications & Skills

• A BFA/BA degree in Theatre/Entertainment fields or equivalent professional experience.
• 1-3 years of experience in the entertainment industry (costume design, assistant costume designer, etc).
• Motivation, dedication, passion, integrity, collaboration, and self direction.
• Advanced skills in hand and machine sewing and finishing with an understanding of theatrical costume and construction techniques and terms.
• Demonstrated proficiency in hand sewing techniques.
• Knowledge of a variety of costume construction techniques including tailoring, period construction techniques, and alterations.
• Demonstrated knowledge in theatrical construction and quick rigging techniques.
• Collaborative skills to efficiently complete assigned projects.
• Ability to listen, take instruction, and participate in a team to complete builds/alterations.
• Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and vendors.
• Skillful work under tight deadlines, in a fast paced and high pressure environment.
