Job Description
Job Overview

Full Time: 37.5 hours per week. Permanent post. Shift work (weekday evenings, weekends, bank holidays, on call).

Grade: NHS AfC Band 2. Location: Southport Hospital, Southport. Salary: £25,272 per annum. Closing date: 03/07/2026.

Main Duties
  • Participate in a duty rota that includes weekday evenings, weekends, bank holidays and on call commitments.
  • Communicate relevant information within the team to ensure the continual and efficient running of the service.
  • Liaise between decontamination personnel, customers and other healthcare staff politely and helpfully.
  • Demonstrate competency and understanding of sterilisation and disinfection procedures.
  • Report accidents or incidents, or faulty equipment to the supervisor and document procedures in accordance with departmental and Trust policies.
  • Carry out additional new development or tasks as deemed necessary by management.
Qualifications
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills essential.
  • National Decontamination Training Programme or other equivalent decontamination qualification.
  • Experience of quality system auditing valuable.
Knowledge & Experience
  • Previous experience in a Sterile Services Department or medical device decontamination manufacturing or production environment.
  • Experience working within a peri operative care setting or healthcare related clinical environment, such as theatres.

Other Requirements
  • Working in uncomfortable or unpleasant physical conditions (e.g., exposure to blood, bone, body tissue).
  • Ability to stand for long periods.
  • Ability to move loads up to 12 kg and handle washer disinfectors and sterile instrument trays.
  • Attention to detail in cleaning and inspecting instruments and devices.
  • Organise workload and workflow effectively.
  • Flexible to work required hours to meet department demands, including weekends, bank holidays and on call rota.
