Go back University Hospital Southampton NHS Trust

Staff Nurse (Trauma Assessment Unit)

The closing date is 17 March 2026

University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Main duties of the job

We're looking for nurses to join our Trauma Assessment Unit (TAU) at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS).

TAU (8 beds) is the main gateway to the Trauma and Orthopaedic Unit. We take admissions from ED, GP, Minor injuries units, other hospitals and direct from home. Assessments are carried out by our skilled nursing staff, therapy teams and specialist consultants who plan ongoing treatment before being transferred to one of the Orthopaedic wards. We are continually looking at ways to improve transfer from the Emergency Department to ensure the smoothest and shortest patient journey. We encourage staff progression and have an active apprenticeship programme ongoing. It is an excellent area to gain general Orthopaedic experience, showcase existing skills and allow for further learning opportunities.

Our Trauma and Orthopaedic service is a leading National Trauma Centre, supported by a large team of specialist experts.

The Trauma and Orthopaedic Care Group consists of:

  • National and Local Major Trauma Centre
  • Elective Orthopaedic Surgery
  • Step Down to Rehab
  • Fast Track Fracture Neck of Femur service

All specialities are supported by a team of Specialist Nurses/Co-ordinators and Advanced Clinical Practitioners.
