Staff Nurse in the Occupational Health Service

Anexciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, motivatedRegistered Nurse (RN) to join our friendly team in the Occupational HealthService of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Thepost is based at St James University Hospital, Leeds, but does also involvecross site working to other hospitals within the Trust.

Thisrole will include undertaking assessments for pre-employment, inoculationincident management, immunisations and venepuncture as well as supportingcolleagues with contact tracing for IPC incidents.

Dueto the variety of the work carried out here you would obtain extensiveexperience in all aspects of Occupational Health. You must be RN qualifiedideally with NHS experience in Occupational Health.

Thisrole requires a highly organised person with the ability to priorities theirworkload, work in a calm and effective manner and communicate well at alllevels.

Itis important that you have excellent verbal and written communication skillsincluding confident use of IT systems.

Main duties of the job

Thepostholder will undertake pre-employment / pre-placement paper screening(triaging) to meet individual needs in relation to their occupation. Involvingassessment of the health questionnaires in order to either clear fit for therole or ascertain the type of further assessment required either telephoneconsultation or a face-to-face assessment & carry out these assessmentproviding specialist advice on fitness to work and adjustments required.

Thepostholder will provides specialist knowledge in delivering a safe andeffective immunisation programme for the Trust and vaccinating during theseasonal flu programme and Covid vaccination campaigns, working within theboundaries of Department of Health Guidelines, The Green Book, Trust Policy andlocal protocols.

Carryout venepuncture ensuring correct completion of request forms and entry intopatient electronic records.

Assessmentand management of inoculation incidents requiring expert knowledge in order toensure the best management in relation to the risk which includes administeringHIV prophylactic treatment as necessary.

Supportingthe IPC team with management of staff contact tracing following IPC incidentssuch as Measles etc.

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will when required supervise more inexperienced members of staff.

Thenature of the job may require the post holder to travel off -site, often withequipment.

Unlikeward based roles the OH service does not have a defined capacity such asnumbers of beds therefore there is a requirement to be able to respond in atimely and effective manner to sudden increases in activity.

A need to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Person Specification Experience
  • Ability to perform accurate drug calculations.
  • Competent in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competent in the use of information technology.
  • Understand the skills and knowledge required to develop team members
  • Experience of supervising more junior staff.
  • Basic understanding of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Skills in venepuncture and injections.
  • Committed to working with people.
Qualifications
  • Registered Adult Nurse.
  • Current registration with NMC.
  • Willing to undergo training as required for role.
  • An understanding of the role of Occupational Health.
  • Standards of Professional Practice.
